Sony Australia have confirmed that Play TV will arrive on Aussie shores early in 2009. Play TV allows PS3 owners to watch, pause and record free-to-air TV. Earlier this week we reported that a new super-sized 160GB PS3 will be heading to Europe and the US. Today Sony Australia confirmed they "will not be introducing the limited edition 160GB PS3 announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe at the 2008 Games Convention Developers Conference (GCDC) held in Leipzig, Germany." However Sony Australia did confirm Australia will receive the PSP 3000 on October 16. They also confirmed the wireless keyboard will be released in Australia "before the end of the year" as well as Play TV.
The news doesn’t come as a major shock considering the 80GB PS3 won’t be available in Australia until August 28. There has been no confirmation on the PSN video download service coming to Australia, with Sony last stating it wouldn’t be coming anytime soon. The PS3 160GB has no new features beyond the larger HDD so don’t expect it to find a home Down Under until Play TV is released and the Australian rendition of the PSN video download becomes more of a reality.
