Modern Warfare 2 will render at 600p

Infinity Ward once again justifies a sub-HD video game during a high definition console era with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The resolution, which is 1024 by 600 pixels, has been confirmed by the pixel counters on the Beyond3D technical forums, who recently brought us the resolution of Ghostbusters: The Video Game on the PlayStation 3.

Modern Warfare 2's native rendering resolution will result in 307,200 pixels less than if it was running at the high-definition 720p.

The question is whether this matters for Infinity Ward's upcoming game? Unlike Ghostbusters, Modern Warfare 2 will be an extremely impressive game both graphically and in its framerate; Infinity Ward is again targeting 60 frames-per-second, when most graphically impressive video games struggle to hit 30 frames-per-second.

A sub-HD rendering resolution is surely a compromise worth taking considering the benefits?

Most of the time, reviewers only care about the game play.

I'd usually say gameplay over graphics.... but if IW fail to not just meet, but improve on the single player, multiplayer, sound, gameplay AND graphical areas of the game, then it just shows there trying to sell a less impressive game based on hype

Yeah, mate! But I don't really remember, because I've actually only watched it once...

You see, watching it over and over will only make the wait for November 10th...LONGER.

Maybe they had to dumb it down in the graphics department in order to make everything else better?
e.g. Bigger maps, more impressive lighting effect, better sound, more troops on-screen, etc.


Pleaes don't put IW or the game down.

IW set the bar for Multiplayer FPS games, they cant set it then lower it I still have no doubt the game will be awesome though!

I dont care to be honest... pixels dont mean **** in the end, its what it looks like up on screen. I was playing CoD4 the other day in single player and bloody hell its still an amazing impressive game graphically, and that was running at 600p... and thats 2 years old now. So sometimes numbers can be deceiving - it basically comes down to what the engine can do.
