Possible confirmation that GTA IV is region locked?

The Australian GTA IV not the full deal? Neither is the NZ version? Why not just import it then?
Looks like Rockstar thought of that. According to an email many readers have received from Rockstar in the States, the game is "region locked for [its] specific territories". Which consoles this includes and whether it applies to the multiplayer we're not sure.
The email goes on to reinforce Rockstar Oz's earlier statement regarding the changes to our version of the game being minor. Kotaku AU's attempts to get an answer from Rockstar Oz regarding the region locking have been met with failure, but this looks official to me.

Due to a shipping error three of our customers might well have received their copies of GTA4 this morning...
Please appreciate that this was an error on our part and that DVDCrave is committed to abiding by the official world wide street date of Tuesday the 29th.
The release of this game is a huge event, so please hang in there until the 29th as you won't be disappointed!

lol. It's got nothing to do with what people think they deserve. If people want the uncensored version they are entitled to get it.
Regarding the region locking, I didn't think you could do that for ps3 games. Are they just talking about online?

I'm sure it would be possible, though if it was implemented surely Play-Asia wouldn't say that it's region-free. Also it'd be in Rockstar's and companies selling GTA4 to overseas customers to make them fully aware of the restriction well before they even think of preordering or else it'd be a nightmare. I doubt it's region-locked cos the signs aren't there but for this one rumour (...for now, anyway). Online play however wouldn't surprise me too much if it was locked

Yeh the online locking wouldn't surprise me either. I'd just rather know if it will be locked altogether or not. Because if it is I will cancel my Play-Asia order.
Now I don't know whether to cancel it anyway because I will want to play online. Hmmmm......
