to get my update I kept my PS3 burning through the night, but also it does take a while to start up.

Use P2P and as Heartbrake said it does take some time to start up and my average speed was around 30kBps

I downloaded the update from HTTP in about 6-7 hours. :/

Try p2p first. Might take a while to start so just wait. If you can't wait try http. It will work, but probably an over nighter. Some suggest changing port to 8080? 
I was lucky and used the torrent on Thursday and had 16 clients with about 270 - 330KB/s.

It dosnt matter what port you use. just as long as you have that one forwarded to your PS3 in your modems setings.

Peer 2 Peer (p2p), basically works in the way that if people are hosting the file or downloading at the same time it'll download faster depending on the amount of people. HTTP currently doesn't work at all. You download it through the MGSO beta client.

you don’t even have a PS3 yet do you? so why did you sign up?
And P2P stands for Peer to Peer. Its a type of network connection that allows people to share files between them selves. One of the most popular types of P2P at the moment is bit torrents, which allow people to share large amount of data between them selves in a relatively short time. Though its mostly used for piracy.

p2p = Peer to peer file sharing,in MGO's case you are downloading the update from another PS3 user & conversly your uploading your data to someone elses PS3.

you're not going to get anything even after you get the account. just a waste of time. unless you happen to get a ps3 before mgo beta ends, its useless.

world of warcraft has been doing their major content patches this way for years. As it’s much cheaper than blizzard getting the ridiculous amount of bandwidth required to allow 9million people to DL their patches 
but they had to start allowing people to download most of the update in the background while they played a week or so before the patch went live as the P2P download was so dam slow

I think it's pretty interesting P2P is being implemented,i wonder if it's just for this game though,if Sony uses it for PS3 system updates it should be lightning quick as everyone needs it at the same time.

Yeah I was pretty 'whoa' when the option popped up. From everything I've seen though they always give you a pretty clear option to not use BT, be it MGO or WoW or whatever. I just love the rapid deployment factor of it

Snake Eater is my fave as well, loved the whole jungle setting and new ideas *Camo outfits, the ability to heal your own wounds and eating animals etc* The cobra unit offered some of the best MGS villians as well i thought, The fear was insane!
On topic of this BETA, i havent downloaded it yet, dont know if i'll bother now, i'll just wait for the full game and the impressions from you guys
