evlspcmk said: tonyamanda said: mines fine i try not to watch dvds in mine so it wont run the laser out.. i really only use my ps3 for games only.. playing dvds on it will not ruin the laser or make it deteriorate faster, when the ps3 first starts up and before the motor starts spinning it will pump out an array of IR for cd's then its red laser for the DVD's and then the UV for blu ray. when going through this it will determine whats in the drive and use the according wave length laser diode output, yes it is a single diode but has multiple outputs. so its safe to say that if you play nothing but bluray in it it will most likley stuff up the UV output but the red and IR will still be fine so dont worry about playing dvds and cds in it.
