Ok seeing so many peoples PS3's are biting the dust and there are over 1000 threads here on the forum for peoples consoles breaking down i decided i'd make a Thread for it.

When your console breaks down come here and talk, get it off your chest so to speak about how you feel?

whether it be heating problems,online probs, Bluray << (very common)

This is the thread that may help you.

My PS3 has a super awesome fan which spins up in full speed when its hot and cools down when it gets cooler i love it

mines fine i try not to watch dvds in mine so it wont run the laser out.. i really only use my ps3 for games only..

I think amanda is right though. I got my ps2 about the same time as a mate got his. I also had a dvd palyer and he didnt. His ps2 broke after a couple of years, we think through all of the dvds that he used to watch on it, where as mine sill works even now.

Well my mate just got his ps3 back after 4 working days, imo thats amazing, its one of those refurb ones but it looks bloody brand new, so he's really happy.

question!!!! ok so i have put a new hdd 120gb in mine.. if the ps3 craps itself and i have not backed up my data.. before i send it to sony i put the old one in their but when they give me another am i able to put my 120gb back into the new one they gave me? will the new ps3 reconise most of my stuff?

Never heard of that before that is very good indeed i have heard they put a Brand new casing on them when they refurb them.

(comes included with the $315)

They have to cause they get kicked around and droped alot at the 315 factory so they just change the casing

Well my 60gb is still sitting there broketed

Because it's a JPN 60gb unit, AU Sony won't touch it (not even for $$$), so my only means of getting it fixed is through 3rd party repair agents... I'm hoping it's just a power supply as it will only cost me $250 to fix it...

@Mandy: if your PS3 breaks and they send you another one, the new PS3 will not recognize the data on the HDD as it is locked to the MAC address of the PS3. Nor will you be able to restore the backup if you have one to another system for the above stated reason...

playing dvds on it will not ruin the laser or make it deteriorate faster, when the ps3 first starts up and before the motor starts spinning it will pump out an array of IR for cd's then its red laser for the DVD's and then the UV for blu ray. when going through this it will determine whats in the drive and use the according wave length laser diode output, yes it is a single diode but has multiple outputs. so its safe to say that if you play nothing but bluray in it it will most likley stuff up the UV output but the red and IR will still be fine so dont worry about playing dvds and cds in it.

I only play ps3 games on it as well, as I am paranoid that I might stuff up my laser like my first PS3 and my current PS3 is now out of warrenty
