gauthey - nope, they're not cross compatible at all. the only third party guitar that can work for both games is the Nyko Frontman wireless guitar..

Wait, No, Europe May Not Be Getting Rock Band 2 In September
That Rock Band 2/European release news just had to be too good to be true, didn't it? Despite initial claims that the game would be released in Europe alongside the US launch in September, EA have since changed their tune, saying "There was a misunderstanding and there is no confirmed date for Europe". Sad, but also typical, even expected. If you're looking for more realistic release estimates, sometime/anytime in 2009 would probably get you the best odds with the bookies.

But it really doesn't affect me. I'm importing the American version anyway.

I feel i will be importing aswell, hopefully there is an add-on pack release for people that already have rock band. I will import that one. Maybe with the game, cymbal add-on for drums if there is one, and the new guitar.

This confused me. Why would xbox have a time release exclusive? It's not like they don't know how to make the game work for the PS. BUt oh well, maybe this was more manufacturing than anything else. Get a whole bunch with the xbox symbol on them sell them, then make a whole bunch with the PS symbol.

maybe ms just paid them for the exclusivity first? the europeans weren't happy with the pricing of the bundle there, because it ended being about twice the price of the US. in other words, it'll be cheaper for them to import than to buy locally. perhaps that would happen here too, as with the current trend of games as it is?
News update: more songs for RB2 leaked:

Claiming to have play-tested Rock Band 2, a poster apparently leaked a number of songs from the setlist. The message has since been deleted by forum moderators, but not before its contents were passed around online. All I do know is the drumming track for it will be insane. Danny Carey is the man!
Yeh seen Tool live.......about.......4 or 5 times? Glad I caught them at Big Day Out to see them at a festival set up. But headlining their own show is where they excel.
How good is the lighting rig for the 10,000 days set they just toured. My god.

Same ol' story - but hey, its not all bad - at least the PS3 isnt region coded (despite Sony . . )like the XBOX360.

What i'm hoping for and know won't ever happen. Is a option to download all your rock band 1 songs onto your harddrive, so when you have Rock Band 2 disc in, you can still access all content from Rock Band 1 (DLC and on-disc songs). That would be awesome.

uuuummmmmm . . . think I read somewhere thats exactly what you can do - both DLC's are compatible according to the article (which I'm assuming means the cymbal section of the RB2 drums 'alternates' since there wont be a sixth note (button)and the drum set appears to have 3 snares / toms + pedal + 2 cymbals - think it was an article Wutang posted a link for not too long ago . . .

Well according to this, all rock band 1 songs are rumoured to be available as FREE downloads on. Don't think this is possible, since Rock Band 1 people paid money for the first disc. More likely a feature to be able to download all tracks off disc more like it. Otherwise there might be a few angry people that paid for the first disc just to get it free with the second seems pretty unfair. But who knows, as long as i can have all songs with only putting in one disc, thats all i care about really.
Plus if it's RB1 songs are downloadable i can just download the songs i want, which is cool i guess.

Won't affect me though. I'm buying Rock Band 2 regardless.

Exactly, however, using all that bandwidth to download songs i've already got on a disc seems pretty stupid would prefer if they added a feature to just rip the songs you want off the first disc into the library.

I know what you're saying, and I would love that too ... but it won't happen, because Harmonix will want to protect the songs (allowing copying/ripping would potentially lead to trouble).
I'm fine with downloading all the songs again. I'll download them during my off-peak quota.

yeah that seems odd... maybe you can copy off the RB1 disc when you load up RB2 or something? it doesnt seem right, being able to get RB1 disc songs for free if you get RB2 - even financially not right for Harmonix/MTV..
regardless, i will be getting RB1 (and most likely RB2 in the future), but i'll wait to read abt the announcement of RB2 at E3 next week
