[Update: According to IGN Xbox Team Editor-in-Chief Hilary Goldstein, "Nate (the originator of the above quote) goofed in writing that. He hopes that is allowed. Nothing about this has been announced and Nate's never even seen RB2. Sorry, guys." Guess we'll all find out the truth at E3 next week, huh?]

oops sorry i initially posted this on the RB thread by mistake. damn multitasking
gamespot previews RB2:
e3.gamespot.com/
i'm reading it at the moment.. will update on the juicy bits soon
EDIT: some confirmed songs:
"Ace of Spades" -- Motörhead
"Everlong" -- Foo Fighters
"Pinball Wizard" -- The Who
"Panic Attack" -- Dream Theater
"Any Way You Want It" -- Journey
"Chop Suey" -- System of a Down
"Kids in America" -- The Muffs
"Give It Away" -- Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Hello There" -- Cheap Trick
"Pump It Up" -- Elvis Costello
woot!
EDIT 2 : news on drums:
"Although it won't have any additional pads, the Rock Band 2 drum set will feature velocity-sensitive pads that will play "louder" in the game the harder you hit them. The pads themselves will be more muffled to cut down on the noisy clatter as you wail away, and will feature a better bounce, making them ostensibly easier to play."

Velocity? That's great.
The most important feature in my opinion is the DLC backward compatibility.
Oh, and it's great that you can create a setlist and rock out rather than selecting one song at a time.
Music creation in GH-WT? Doesn't really interest me atm
(Seriously, I think I'd be too lazy to use that feature ...)

yeah i agree on all of the above
music creating in the game doesnt interest me too much either, since i can do that with real instruments if i want to

music creation ; i'll just let others do it and tax from them >=D
but woohoo for velocity!
can't wait to grab RB2 and GW:WT >=D

Nope, but that doesn't bother me. Just means i can buy the game and not have to purchase any peripherals.

That is very true. I can barely get my head around the drums on Hard ...
Imagine trying to get use to 6 'variables' (4 drum lids + 2 cymbals).
I wouldn't mind Harmonix releasing a new drum set with cymbals in Rock Band 3. I'd buy that
Edit: Maybe Harmonix is preparing for the future, and the Rock Band 2 drum set is capable of accommodating a cymbal add-on in the future?

Hmmm...i'm not sure. The guitar has stuck with 5 buttons for every game. Which is up to it's 6-7 iteration. So i think Rock Band Drums will always stay at 5 (Don't forget the kick pedal wutang). Adding 2 cymbals making it 7 things in total will just be too confusing for people. I think a lot of people will struggle with GH:WT cause thats already starting with 6. I don't see many people getting off medium on that one.

yeah i agree.. GHWT would be fairly difficult for those that are completely new to this kinda thing. and harmonix have hit the sweet spot with having pads that can double as cymbals as they see fit. it may not be similiar to playing drums, yes, but it gives them much more options to custumize the drum pad

Oops! Forgot about that one hahaha.
So yea, if there were add-ons for cymbals ... I'd buy them.
Actually, that'd be a good idea wouldn't it?
People looking for a challenge, buy the cymbal add-ons making it 7 in total ...

Rock Band 2 Features Drum Trainer, Wireless Instruments, Full Backwards Compatibility
Important features to me:
First things first: If you already own Rock Band and you buy Rock Band 2 all of your songs will transfer over automatically and free o' charge.
The new guitar will have a sturdier strum bar, quieter buttons and be wireless. The new drum kit will include a metal reinforced pedal, quieter pads, velocity sensors and... be wireless.

But isnt GH-WT only 3 pads & 2 cymbals (both cymbals being the same yellow note) plus the pedal ? So its still only 5 notes.

Don't know if they are the same colour. Whats the point of having 2 cymbals that do exactly the same thing?
Looking at pics, it look like it's yellow and orange. Very similar probably to help people identify that it's a cymbal note. So looks like it will be 6 different notes.

Might be installed in Rock Band 3. I hope so ... I reckon it's an awesome idea! Where's the "request a feature" e-mail at Harmonix?
Harmonix did mention that the "music creation" idea from Guitar Hero: World Tour, they want to implement that feature differently in a future Rock Band release. So that's something else to look forward to too ...
