The Top 5 Best and Worst of 2007

2007 was a pretty big year for gaming. Granted, it looks set to be beaten in 2008 with such a number of quality titles hitting shelves soon, but with all three consoles now on the market, developers were throwing out games like no tomorrow.

There were plenty of releases on the PS3 in 2007, but which ones stand out from the rest, and which ones just, well, suck?

We've come up with a list of the 5 Best and 5 Worst Playstation 3 titles of 2007.

5 Best XBOX Playstation 3 Titles of 2007 (in no particular order)

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction is a title that defines the platforming genre. It grabs everything that makes both the franchise and genre so perfect, and magnifies it. Not only is ToD an absolute wonder to play, but it shows off everything the Playstation 3 has to offer.

Uncharted

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the must-have action/adventure title for the Playstation 3. Its environments are gorgeous and the gameplay is superb. Mix those together with an interesting story and smart enemy AI and you have one of the PS3's best games.

Warhawk

Warhawk is the first (and currently only) full Playstation 3 game available for download via the PSN and is every bit worth the download. You can also buy it in-store with a wireless blue-tooth headset which only increases the enjoyment of this online, death-match title.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

After three other entries in the COD franchise, one would think that the World War genre had been done to death. However, COD 4 brings the franchise and genre into a whole new direction, bringing it to a modern battlefield and boy is it a lot of fun! The single-player is short but challenging and you'll want to play through it multiple times, and the online multiplayer is one of the best online experience you'll ever have gaming!

Resistance: Fall of Man

When the Playstation 3 launched in Australia, the line-up wasn't all that much to write home about. It did have one saving grace though, and that was Resistance: Fall of Man, a FPS set in an alternate reality. The gameplay is deep and accessible, the graphics are sublime and the sound is amazing. Resistance is the FPS to own for the Playstation 3.

Clive Barker's Jericgo

Jericho was probably one of the most underachieving and disappointing games in 2007 and that's why it makes this list. It's not quite as terrible as other games, but considering the hype and promotion surrounding it, it didn't deliver. The gameplay was boring, the graphics were grainy and the story wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

Lair

Lairwas one of the most hyped up and anticipated games of 2007 considering its developers, Factor 5, reputation. The game heavily used the SIXAXIS motion control yet the game was a commercial failure and didn't sit well with critics and gamers alike. It looked great, but its gameplay was heavily flawed. You can also play it on the go on your PSP via emote access, but it doesn't make up for the poor quality of the title overall.

The Golden Compass

You would think that someone, somewhere would finally make good a movie-game adaption. The Golden Compass is yet another example of a licensed game gone wrong. It's terrible gameplay makes it almost unplayable and it's not even remotely enjoyable.

Sonic the Hedgehod

Oh Sonic, how you've fallen. Sonic the Hedgehog on Playstation 3 (also available on XBOX 360) is yet another failed attempt by the SEGA Sonic Team to successfully bring the blue hero into a 3D world. This game is heavily flawed with camera, control and graphical issues that at times make it almost unplayable.

Transformers

Transformers was, unfortunately for the gaming public, released on practically every single gaming console, including handhelds. The game, based off the Michael Bay film of the same name, completely disregards the potential the franchise has. Transformers: The Game is fun for a while, but it gets repetitive and boring fast.

Beowulf
