PlayStation Eye knows what you look like - It's watching you!

Sony has revealed, at the Develop Conference in the UK, that the PlayStation Eye can regonise you, or to be more accurate your face. The camera works in conjunction with the PS3 'wand' that was unveiled at E3 this year to allow motion control on the PS3.

Kish Hirani, SCEE's head of developer services, revealed that the PlayStation Eye will be able to regconise "gender and even the age of the face, separate facial features such as the nose, eyes and ears, and even detect whether you’re smiling or not". The camera will be able to follow and reproduce the movements of the players head, and their facial features such as their mouth, eyebrows and nose.

well the technology is old now because the FBI, CIA and other federal US agencies us it everyday since 2001 and it be great if it had voice recognition and turn on the PS3 with ur voice and face. Imagine a eye toy game that u have to use ur face as a control the character for example if u pull a angry face u select dark powers or happy face u select good powers and if u do a confuse face a help indicator will pop up.

if you're talking about facial recognition its older than that & other countries use it too. anyway, it can be done with pretty much ANY digital camera, the actual facial recognition comes in the software, not the camera, so this is misleading news

one of the members on my360 is incharge of the testing and development of these biometric scanners for immigration, but as every else has said its the software and not the camera, just expect a large update

of course its software, cameras just collect light and color and the software just puts it together to a image and the facial recognition is part of the software . I just to see a game that u use different facial features that controls the game u play.

I never heard the voices but that light creeps me out just the same.... mine gets unplugged and stuffed into my GTA IV duffle bag which gets put into a dark corner..... besides, just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
