Firmware 3.0 Officially Annouced
At the Gamescon conference not so long ago, Sony officially announced that Firmware 3.0 will be heading our way soon. Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel says it will be packed with animated themes, a “What’s New” section and much more.
"We've enhanced the look and feel of the XMB so that it's easier and even more intuitive to use," Lempel wrote. "We've also added network improvements and personalization options to help enhance your PS3 experience."
The What's New section will replace the Information Board and will be placed below the PSN icon. From here, you can find "the latest and greatest game, video, PlayStation Network and PlayStation news and releases, as well as your recently played games, in a sleek, new animated format." 3.0 also adds a Status Indicator to the top right corner of the screen which will display your avatar, the number of friends online and if you have any unread messages.
Firmware 3.0 also redesigned the Friends List, adds PlayStation Store updates to the Game Video tabs, and gives you dynamic themes as well as premium avatars. Trophies get subcategories to differentiate add-on content and original content.
IGN Associate Editor Ryan Clements commented on the update: "Oh, Dynamic Themes are being shown. These are like themes on f****** crack. Super nice, animated bits, like Sackboy running around the planet. Awesome."
Firmware 3.0 hs no official release date as of yet.
