Anyway, the difference between PS2/PS1 and PS3 is that the former were very easy to develop for, so smaller developers made more titles for them. Every now and then we'd get a small gem that went under the radar, bust most were shovelware. Now, with the Wii being so easy to develop for, all the shoverware is on Wii.
Quality, not quantity.

i dont know what rock you have been living under, what about GTAIV, MGS4, Uncharted, Skate 1&2, Red Faction: Guerrila, Infamous, Prototype...etc, etc.

I still remember the good old days when any new game I got would keep occupied for hours on end, and even the games i didnt like, i still finish them. Now if I put in a game that doesnt really interest me, its lasts about 5 minutes before i turn it off and never think of it again (like infamous). Now when i go to EB or JB I see heaps of games, but none really interest me. If i was 14 again, id probably be in heaven.
