i've been folding for a few years for team 24 (OCAU) under the username SaMbO... recently put the ps3 to the task and it pumps out points nicely...

they have teams just to promote competition, which in turn increases work units processed, OCAU has at different times given away hardware etc to dedicated folders/farmers...
IMHO nerds (i use the term affectionatly) love to tinker with stuff and folding@home was a way to test an overclocked computers stability at the same time as doing something 'useful', there is a healthy competition between OC.com (a US based overclocking group) and OCAU , OC.com have the lead at the moment but as usually happens we (OCAU) catch up over winter as things cool down and everyone winds up thier overclocks.... i've probably just confused you more... or not?

Yea, I used F@H to test my overclocked computer.
Intel C2Q Q6600 2.4Ghz overclocked to 3.0Ghz.
Unfortunately, I think my computer started becoming unstable ... so my CPU is now running on default speeds (i.e. 2.4Ghz)

haha thats funny.. my 1st folding machine was a 2.4 overclocked to 3.0Ghz, Pentium 4 though... i sold that chip and moved onto watercooling with a 3.06 P4 with hyperthreading overclocked to 3.4GHz, i ran this thing 24/7, also ended up with a 1.6 overclocked to 2.something on 24/7 no keyboard, mouse or monitor just a pure points machine... i was looking into getting a third rig up and going but my h20 leaked and killed a 6800gt (ouchie$ at the time)... you probably just needed better cooling on the chip

Yea, I'm relying on air cooling. Haven't messed with water cooling yet.

water does require an extra level of attention... the leak i experience was because i tightened the seals in my h2o loop to leakproof transport the rig for a LAN then forgot the loosen after and the resulting pressure popped the seal of the CPU block... rig kept on running for a few days with water and coolant leaking onto the back of the 6800gt and into the AGP socket...then POP! deaded.. doh...
as for buying an extra ps3 for folding alone.. well if the mrs was ok with it i would also but she doesnt like me leaving it on 24/7 as it is :roll:

I was just browsing Amazon for Blu-rays and decided just to checkout what the NTSC PS3 is goin for these days.. $399 USD!!! Now i had actually seen this price before.. but i had really forgotten how damn cheap they get it over there! Too bad the US isn't PAL otherwise i could easily import a couple of units on the cheap!
I got my PAL PS3 in Oz for $500 on Boxing Day off a mate at a shop (can't say who) so i got it pretty good.. but geezus it'd be sweet to be able to get this price off the shelf.. I think Australia needs to start retailing PS3s at $599.. then move to $549 etc. I could say just move em down to $500 but that'd be unrealistic now wouldn't in this rip-off country! hahah
I'd buy atleast another PS3 if they were $450 Oz.

They were losing a lot of money when they started selling them in the US and Japan, so they had to regain their losses through Europe and us. lol

Yeaaahhhhhey i've done my 19th fold,and my PS3's still cold,even though it's old,it hasn't been sold,i hate to be bold,but MyPS3 breaks the mould....ha ha i just lol'd......

Man, my folding on my computer hasn't been that great ever since I reset all my overclocked settings.
Now running on factory settings (i.e. 2.4GHz and not 3.0 lol)

Folding@Home is now at ~2.5 Petaflops! Checkout OS Stats - fah-web.stanford.edu/
The big increase is due to a new version of the GPU client, GPU2 and it now supports Nvidia graphics cards as well as ATI cards. Not all models are compatible tho, but if your good with computers, try the program out and let us know how u go.

From what I calculated, each WU is under 1mb to download and under 3mb to upload... considering how many gigs I have for DL/UL I don't really care. Especially if it's towards a good cause! 
BTW we're nearly through the 900 barrier! Well done team!

Folding@Home is now sitting around 2.6~2.7 Petaflops!
GPU clients have got a Petaflop of their own, same as PS3 (as it has for ages now) so yeh the project should really benefit from the increased power.
Keep returning those work units guys yas doing great!

Xzadur don't worry mate.. your PS3 work unit count will always be different to whats on the site anyway (occasional missed WUs or uncredited work units etc.) so don't worry.. just keep ya same name as ya have done, keep the 60766 as ya team no. and you'll be sweet!
